Throughout the month of July, Shea Apartment Communities led the Shea It Forward: Back to School Backpack Drive, a campaign to provide support for local families in need.
Teaming up with local charities from each of its three regions, Shea partnered with Action Angels of Southern California, Brighter Beginnings of Northern California and Minority Enterprises Educational Development (MEED) of Colorado for the Backpack Drive.
“The charities we selected for the Shea It Forward: Back to School Backpack Drive all provide support for underprivileged families,” said Yunmi Martin, senior vice president for Shea Apartment Communities. “We knew that with the help of Action Angels, Brighter Beginnings and MEED, the backpacks we collected would be given to as many children as possible to give them the tools they needed to start the school year off on the right foot.”
The donation drive collected 203 backpacks from residents and staff at the 17 participating apartment communities in Santa Ana, Oakland, Richmond, Bay Point, Antioch Pleasant Hill and the Denver area.
“The support we received for the backpack drive far exceeded our expectations, and we look forward to continuing to support our local communities,” Martin said.
