The kids are finally back in school but the chaos continues with homework assignments, projects and more. Keep your home stress-free this school year by getting organized, start with yourself and then move to your kiddies.

The art of back-to-school organization:

  • Get yourself organized. First and foremost find a system that works for you, that will help you stay on top on your children’s sport practices, class trips and more. Whether you jot everything down in your phone/tablet calendar or write it down on paper, make sure to note all events for the year and fill in as needed – don’t forget to include some ‘you’ time!
  • Set-up homework stations. Deciding where your kids will setup shop during the school year will create a comfortable learning environment that will help keep your children focused outside of school. Plus, it will keep their school paperwork in one central location verses all over the house which is a bonus.
  • Set-up night and morning routines. We are all creatures of habit and giving yourself and your children a morning and night routine will minimize your stress levels and help your household run more
efficiently. To make sure you all stay on track, jot down the routines and hang them on the wall. If you want to get a little fancier, Timely Matters makes a time management system to organize kids throughout the day - morning, afternoon and night – by guiding children through their daily routine. All routines are customizable.
  • Establish Bedtimes. If your child jumps out of bed bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, then you are one lucky parent. For the rest of us, avoid the morning complaints by schedule a mandatory “lights out” to make sure your child gets all their zzz’s.
