The kitchen is one of the most trafficked areas of the house, and in most families it is considered the center of the home. We all dream of the perfect kitchen but reality is, a kitchen remodel is expensive and most of us rent! Apartment kitchens can be small, cluttered and just plain irritating to cook in! I have found a couple tricks that will open up the space and give you and your family some extra room.

  1. Paint. It’s that simple! The right color in your kitchen can open up the space, think bright and happy colors.
  2. Hang it up. This is probably the single most important tool to de-clutter your kitchen and is a great way to add visual elements to the room. Hang up your colorful and vibrate kitchen items, such as dish towels, coffee mugs - you know the drill, just get creative. A lot of retailers sell unique, colorful hooks that will also accent your kitchen. Don’t forget to put some art on the walls, this will bring color to the room and complement the design.
  3. Think small. I love appliances as much as the next but sometime too many can be overwhelming. Downsize your appliances both in number and in size, the smaller your appliances, the more room you have on your countertops and in your cupboards.
  4. Utilize your space, if you have extra, use it! Put a couple of baskets on top of your refrigerator for storage, buy a thin trash can and slide it in-between or under a small area and add shelving to the walls to store your appliances - there are so many ideas you just need to get started.
