Summer has officially begun and it’s time to start planning. From family vacations, sporting events, kiddie day camps and more, summer can be fun and exhausting all at the same time! When you are mapping out your plans this summer, make sure to schedule some time to relax with your family and friends, and what better way to do that, than with a pool party!

Pool Party - Dive In!

Reserve. First things first, if you live at a Shea Apartment Community you can either reserve one of the facilities close to the pool and/or head out early to grab open tables and chairs so you have a pool area for the day.

Bathing suits and towels are a must. Send a courtesy reminder to all of your guests' to arrive with bathing suits and towels. Warning - there is always a guest that forgets and item or two so keep extra pool necessities on hand, just in case.

Changing area. All of the Shea Apartment Community pools have bathrooms that your guests can change in and out of their swimsuits, but you might want to provide a little changing area for the kiddies. A place that is quick and easily accessible.

Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen. Make sure to have enough sunscreen for your guests and a variety of SPF’s. Sunscreen is a must and everyone should be wearing it at your pool party.

Menu. As always, you are in charge of the menu so plan ahead. Think of fast and easy finger foods - fruit, sandwiches, chips, veggies and dip; anything that is quick to grab. It is also a good idea to pack a cooler to keep your perishable items inside as well as keep your drinks cold.

Don’t forget the tunes! Music is the single most important thing to have for a successful pool party. I like reggae jams, they make summer official.  So bring your iPod and some speakers, or use Pandora on your smartphone, just make sure the volume levels are loud enough to enjoy.

Games. Whether you have kiddies at your pool party or not, games are a fun bonus to a great day! A silly game favorite of my friends and I are dive sticks, other great game ideas are: Marco Polo, battleships and submarines, a belly flop contest, get dressed and monster’s ball bonanza. Decorating. If you like decorating, then go for it, it adds an exciting element to the atmosphere. I am a minimalist in the summer and try to keep things simple, just the necessities, but if that’s what you like to do then dive right in an decorate. All you need to remember is you cannot mess up a pool party. Have fun be save this summer!
