Happy Cinco de Mayo

With so many places to go this Cinco de Mayo, how do you choose? There are a lot of Mexican celebrations around our Northern California apartments and Southern California rentals. I was going to list off all the fabulous places to go this holiday, but instead I have decided to tell you about my last years' Cinco de Mayo extravaganza at Olamendi’s in Laguna Beach – it was priceless and personal to say the least.

My boyfriend’s birthday is on Cinco de Mayo so naturally I would take him out for a night on the town. Since his birthday shares this fun holiday, we decide to go to Olamendi’s. I made reservations because I like to be prepared, and thank goodness I did because when we showed up the place was packed! Even with reservations it took about forty five minutes to get a table. This could have been because I insisted on sitting outside and there are only three tables, but its Laguna Beach you have to sit outside. Before we sat down we jumped up to the bar to grab a drink and boy was there a line, a fun one though. Everyone was so excited to be celebrating Cinco de Mayo and wanted to share it with each person at the restaurant. As always, I joined in on the fun! After we grabbed a drink, we got our table and that’s where the fun began. Mariachis, tequila, everything you expect at a fun Cinco de Mayo fiesta. The best part of the night came when the owner of the restaurant walked out and gave a grand speech, thanking all of her customers for the business over the years. Then she whipped out her whistle, grabbed a bottle of tequila and walked around to every table, pulling back each customer’s head and pouring tequila in it.

This quaint little Mexican restaurant was the perfect fit for our birthday/Cinco de Mayo celebration. It had all the elements - atmosphere, a friendly staff, good food, drink specials and entertainment. So if you are looking for a place to go this year (Orange County apartments, I’m talking to you, especially our Laguna Beach apartments) I would highly recommend Olamendi’s - at least go for a drink and tell me what you think.

Happy Cinco de Mayo, have a safe one!
